High Holiday Services @ EMJC

Dear Members & Friends of the East Midwood Jewish Center:
The High Holy Days are approaching! Rosh Hashanah will be celebrated on Sunday, September 29 (6:15pm service),
and Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1 (8:00am service start both days). Yom Kippur begins on
Tuesday, October 8 with Kol Nidre (6:00 pm service) and then Wednesday, October 9 (9:00am service start). Our
services will be conducted by Rabbi Cantor Sam Levine, along with returning Assistant Cantor Julia Ostrov in our beautiful
Sanctuary.

We invite you to join us, and you can reserve your seat at https://squareup.com/store/emjc/ or by mailing in the
enclosed form with a check or credit card payment information. For each seat in the Main Sanctuary, a ticket is $125
for members and $175 for nonmembers of East Midwood Jewish Center. Each ticket covers all Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur services. The Square Store includes opportunities to purchase New Year’s Greetings and Book of Remembrance
memorials.  It also gives opportunities to support holiday children’s programming. Kol Nidre Appeal donations may be
made on the Donations page.

If you attended last year, you may request the same seats. We will mail tickets to you, unless you request otherwise.

The office will be open for walk-in ticket sales Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm September 3, 5, 10, 12,
17, 19, 22, and 26. The last day for mailing tickets will be September 20. After this date you may pick up tickets in the
office, or in Will Call on the day of the Holiday. If you are a Sustaining Member or Benefactor, your tickets will be issued
based on last year’s seating. Should you desire different seats, please contact the office.

Other services options include: (free, but please RSVP by mailing the enclosed form or emailing info@emjc.org):
 Attendees with hearing difficulties: Our ushers will provide a very useful headphone listening device at no charge. If
needed, please let us know when ordering your tickets.
 High school and college age youth visiting from out of town are welcome to attend all our services at no charge or may
get together in the Beth Hamidrash for their own services. Reservations are required to guarantee seating. You will be
assigned to the sanctuary’s balcony as space permits.
 Russian language service will be on Yom Kippur including Yizkor. Look for signage in the building.

Children’s Services Options:
 Ages 0-7 and their parents: We offer both an informal creative play New Year program, led by early childhood specialist
Joanne Riel, starting at 10 am in the 3 rd floor Playroom, and our parent-led Rosh Hashanah Katan Service in the Dr. Fersko
Room on the 3 rd floor from 11 to 11:45 am both days of Rosh Hashanah as well as on Yom Kippur.
 Children ages 8-13: Audrey Korelstein, EMJC’s Director of Youth & Family Education, will guide children ages 8-13
through an age appropriate exploration of the meaning of these holy days. This program will take place in the Bridal Suite.
on the 3rd floor from 10:30 to 12 pm. On Rosh Hashanah, all the young children’s services conclude with apples, honey,
juice and challah. On Yom Kippur there is a light lunch for those under 13.
 The 5th annual Family Potluck Picnic will take place on October 1, after services.
 On Yom Kippur, the Regency Room on the second floor will be set up as a quiet space to support family members who are
attending Sanctuary services.

In addition to seating reservations, the enclosed form includes opportunities for:
 New Year’s Greetings: your name will be included on a card distributed to our congregation and in the Bulletin
 Book of Remembrance: to remember loved ones, your name and their name(s) will be included in this book distributed at
Yom Kippur and Shmini Atzeret services
 Kol Nidre Appeal: to support essential building repairs and other efforts to maintain our nearly 100-year-old building and
congregation for many years to come
 Children’s Programming Support: Although our High Holiday services for children are free, we would appreciate a donation in support of these important programs for families. Best wishes to you and your family for a shanah tovah u’metukah, a happy, healthy and sweet 5780.
