NightShul, EMJC’s innovative adult learning program will kick off its newest series on Thursday, May 11 with a series of three lectures on Classic Jewish Comedy Duos taught by Professor Ira Epstein.

Classic Jewish Comedy Duos

Prof. Ira Epstein, well known lecturer, performer, and musician presents on three instances where two was definitely better than one. The three featured Jewish comedy duos are Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, Elaine May and Mike Nichols, and Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller.

Dr. Ira Epstein served as professor and chairperson of the Communication Skills Department at LaGuardia Community College, C.U.N.Y and directed the college’s Technology Learning Center. In addition to his academic life, he worked as a musician performing in the Catskills, recorded with Tayku, a hebrew jazz/rock ensemble, taught music to children in summer camps and toured with Theodore Bikel and Herschel Bernardi in the 70’s as part of a UJA program. Most recently, he has been lecturing to adults on comedy and music and the music of Israel and he continues to speak at synagogues, senior centers, JCC’s, libraries, and elderhostels and at meetings of national organizations such as The National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah and B’nai Brith.  He earned his BA and MA from Brooklyn College, CUNY and his Ph.D. from Fordham University

Class begins at 8:00 pm. The fee of $35 for the series (May 11, 18, 25) includes complimentary wine and cheese at 7:00 pm. Drop in for one class for $15.
