Welcome to East Midwood Jewish Center

A message from co-presidents Randy Grossman and Toby Sanchez

Welcome to our new website, which will give you a quick tour of the many religious, social and children’s programs going on at East Midwood Jewish Center. You will meet our staff: Rabbi Alvin Kass, Cantor Sam Levine, Education Director Audrey Korelstein, social worker Shira Felberbaum, MSW, and Executive Director Edith Maiman.

East Midwood is a conservative and egalitarian congregation, open 365 days a year for daily, weekly, and holiday services and religious study for children and adults. It is also a wonderful social, educational and recreational center for all ages. Our large swimming pool is open to dues-paying members and, for a fee, to non-members.

We rent an adjoining building to the East Midwood Hebrew Day School which goes from nursery through eighth grade. We have a Russian outreach program and an active interfaith program with Our Lady of Refuge Roman Catholic Parish and several mosques.

Our calendar will show you the many events scheduled for the coming months plus pictures of past events. You can read the history of our 89-year-old congregation and learn why we are on the National Register of Historic Places.

This website can give you only a taste of East Midwood. Please stop into our beautiful building at 1625 Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn (between Avenues K and L) to look around, attend one of our beautiful Saturday morning services, and stay for the Kiddush and a “Lunch and Learn” session. This is the place to celebrate all the holidays, learn Hebrew, Yiddish and Jewish history, swim in our pool, limber up in our exercise classes and make wonderful friends.

Everyone is welcome at the East Midwood Jewish Center: children, youth, adults and seniors, singles and couples, including interfaith and LGBT individuals and families. They will all find a friendly spiritual and intellectual home at East Midwood Jewish Center.
