The first service of the High Holiday season is the S’lichot service, which usually takes place on the Saturday night that immediately precedes Rosh Hashanah. The S’lichot service introduces some of the main themes of the High Holidays, particularly that of penitence. The beautiful service is led by Rabbi Kass and Cantor Levine and features the EMJC Chorus.

This year, S’lichot services will take place on Saturday night, August 31st. We begin at 8:30 with a discussion led by Rabbi Regina Sandler Phillips on Teshuva, repentance (see below). The actual service will begin at 9:30 and will last one hour.

TURNING TOWARD KINDNESS

We are taught that Jewish community stands on three core values, but only one of them can support us “on one foot.”  At this time of soul-searching before the High Holy Days, come discover the balance that can transform our lives.  Rabbi Regina Sandler-Phillips is the director of WAYS OF PEACE Community Resources, which offers mindful responses to human needs throughout the life cycle.
