This Saturday is Shabbat Shira – the Sabbath of Song. We read Parashat Beshalach which includes the parting of the Sea of Reeds and the song sung by the Israelites after they’ve crossed. It is an epochal moment in the story of Israel – the first step in their transition from the bondage of Egypt to liberty in Eretz Yisrael – the Land of Israel.
